Final Fantasy 16 aiming for a mature age rating

Final Fantasy 16 aiming for a mature age rating

The teen themes of the most recent Final Fantasy games will be shelved for the upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive Final Fantasy 16 edition, as publisher Square Enix sees an age rating of the older ones. The confirmation comes courtesy of a European release bulletin, which includes a PEGI 18 symbol as part of the footer. It’s technically a provisional rating, but if it sticks, it would be the first Final Fantasy to have that rating since Final Fantasy Type-0 HD, though even that entry was only considered Mature in North America.

To be fair, the game seemed much more mature than recent entries in its debut trailer, and has clearly taken inspiration from Western RPGs like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. We will apparently learn more at the end of October, as an introductory website has been planned to introduce the lore and fiction to fans. The release date, apparently, is not as far away as some believe.
