Walt Disney’s grandson says he’s scared by the manager’s bonus while the workers are frustrated.
Brad Lund, Disney’s grandson, told Daily Beast interview that “all family members will join in our horror” regarding Walt Disney (DIS) Oversized payment to management during a break.
“I have already expressed the hope that Disney will continue to provide reasonable compensation and support to its many loyal employees in the spirit of the company that my grandfather was so proud of,” said Daily Beast. He added that this is “the right way to move forward in these difficult times.”
The company did not immediately request comment from CNN Business. Lund is currently embroiled in a decade-long legal battle over his legacy with the trustees of his mother’s estate.
Lund is the second known person associated with the Disney family to publicly leave the entertainment company due to the treatment of employees. Abigail Disney, granddaughter of Walt Disney’s brother Roy Disney, responded to the news about the company’s columns in April, tweeting: “WHAT THE REAL ****?”
She criticized Disney’s decision to fire the amusement park employees after the company paid dividends to shareholders and awarded management bonuses. In a conversation about this month’s earnings, Disney said it would not pay its July dividend to its shareholders. Additionally, the company’s management has made significant pay cuts due to Covid-19.
Walt Disney Co. announced in April that it had employees “whose work is not needed at this time.” The coronavirus pandemic forced Disney’s mainstay to suspend operations, including parks, resorts and entertainment productions. More than 75% of the 223,000 employees work in the parks and produce department.
Abigail Disney had previously called the salary “crazy” for Bob Igera, a former Disney director. Last year, Iger earned $ 47,525,560, which is 911 times more than the average salary for employees. In February he stepped down as president and was replaced by Bob Chapek, but he remains president of Disney. Abigail Disney does not have any role in the company. Previously, he had broken Disneyland’s working conditions and his salary.
