The sleep texting phenomenon is gaining momentum among young people

The great development of technology and the spread of smartphone in all age groups, even among the youngest, it can also cause psychophysical problems. In addition to the possible radiation that a smartphone can emanate, the phenomenon of dependence on the latter is also increasingly widespread, since the adolescent period, as shown by recent research on sleep texting.

The sleep texting phenomenon

Many teenagers keep their cell phones by their bed even at night, connecting for a few minutes while they sleep and sending messages. Sleep texting is precisely the phenomenon of sending messages while falling asleep or still asleep and not remembering to have sent them or what to have written.

Anger rises among Russian doctors when coronavirus hospitals are blocked

This was found in a research conducted on 372 students from Villanova University. A quarter of the students (25%) said they sent a message at night, while the majority (72%) doesn’t remember doing it. This phenomenon can be explained quite easily, in fact people who wake up after sleeping for more than a few minutes are not able to remember the minutes before falling asleep and therefore also the possible rapid sending of a message.

This phenomenon is not good for health in general, as it is synonymous with interrupted sleep and decreases the quality of the latter. The result is less physical and mental energy, low concentration, emotional imbalance, lower academic and university performance.

The research also applies to other portable technology devices such as tablets, laptops, etc. Students with four or more tech devices in the room sleep significantly less and worse than a student with fewer than three devices, according to the study.
