The rumor that they took the charger out of the iPhone box turns two years old. After all, it wasn’t the end of the world.

The rumor that they took the charger out of the iPhone box turns two years old. After all, it wasn’t the end of the world.

In July 2020, rumors that iPhones would stop including a charger in their boxes became serious and everyone raised their hands to their heads. Although Apple defended that it was an environmental measure, in the competition they came to mock the gesture through their marketing. But in 2022 another rooster sings.

A successful movement, but one that has been forced to take it further.

It only took six months for Xiaomi and Samsung to go from laughing at Apple’s move to doing the exact same thing, erasing all traces of the social media taunts and looking the other way. The norm in the new terminals is to include only the charging cable, thus avoiding the accumulation of chargers that in the end will end up being universal in a short time.

The exception is found in those mobiles that are promoted with ultra-fast charging, so they require extra powerful chargers (the Xiaomi 12 that I was using for a month was 68W, no less). Beyond that we have a sea of Lightning, USB-C chargers and induction docks that we use with any compatible device and accessory.

In the end, Apple has taken one of lime and one of sand with what has ended up happening. The competition has ended up agreeing with it by doing the same in its best-selling terminals, but at the same time the European Union has forced it to go a step further and simplify even more until it ends the proprietary Lightning connection. At the moment it is already making good progress with the new dual USB-C charger.
