The new Chromecast 2 includes a Marvell ARMADA 88DE3006 dual-core SoC

When Google unveiled the new Chromecast 2 and Chromecast Audio, it focused solely on talking about its functions and not about the improvements that we would find in the hardware used.

Now, thanks to Marvell, we can see that the SoC that integrates both solutions is a Marvell ARMADA 1500 Mini Plus (88DE3006) with two Cortex-A7 cores accompanied by 512 MB of RAM.

If we compare it with the Marvell ARMADA 1500 Mini (88DE3005) of the first Chromecast, we see that the new solution used doubles the number of cores, but takes a step back in architecture going from one Cortex A9 core to two Cortex A7, even so, possibly Due to an increase in frequencies, Marvell claims that it offers 2.5 times more performance than the chip of the first Chromecast.

According to the Marvell ARMADA 1500 Mini Plus (88DE3006) data sheet, this SoC supports 1080p video at 60 FPS and its GPU supports OpenGL ES 2.0. In addition to this SoC, the new Chromecast 2 and Chromecast Audio include an Acastar 88W8887 network chip with 802.11ac WiFi capability.
