Russia rediscovers the spirit of space exploration: a challenge to Elon Musk
In the last decade the world seems to have rediscovered a passion forspace exploration. Agencies in many countries and private companies have begun to work like never before, but in all of this a country that was once one of the pioneers in this regard has remained quiet. Something has changed there Russia seems to have found the spirit, the desire to return to space.
According to the head of the Russian space agency, Roscosmos he wants to return to Venus, but not only. Once again a challenge has been issued to the United States, to Elon Musk to be more specific. The idea is of design and build reusable rockets that will surpass those of SpaceX.
Russia and space
The words of Dmitry Rogozin, head of Roscosmos: “We are building a methane rocket to replace the Soyuz-2. We are obviously watching what our American colleagues are doing. But our engineers are trying to take a shortcut: don’t repeat what our SpaceX colleagues are doing, but surpass them. It is not designed for landing on the ground, which is exactly why American colleagues chose to land on water as it was 45 years ago.
The choice of Venus is not accidental. This planet is considered a Russian planet since only the Soviet Union managed to land probes on it. According to them, it is a more interesting planet than Mars. The idea is to be able to bring soil samples back to Earth which could help scientists find out more how fight climate change.
