MORELIA, Mich., June 14, 2022.- The Ministry of the Interior, through the State Coordination of Civil Protection, calls on the population to stay informed and follow the recommendations for prevention and self-care in the face of the displacement of the Storm Tropical” Blas” in the Pacific Ocean.

A press release indicates that, according to the National Meteorological Service (SMN) and the National Center for Disaster Prevention (Cenapred), Tropical Depression Two-E intensified to Tropical Storm “Blas”, which will cause in the next few hours very heavy rains. , with a capacity of 50 to 75 mm, in much of the state.

At the moment “Blas” is located 390 km from the coast of Acapulco, Guerrero and is expected to move south causing rains in the Pacific.

These precipitations could increase the level of rivers and streams and cause overflows, landslides and floods in low-lying areas, hence the recommendation of the state PC to attend to alerts and follow prevention and self-care measures:

• Take extreme precautions in the presence of strong winds and pay special attention to buildings made of flimsy material, as well as the possible effects on billboards and power lines.
• Take extreme precautions against vehicular traffic on highways and rural roads, fords and mountain bridges, as well as in urban areas, if it is necessary to seek alternative routes.
• If you walk down the street, exercise extreme caution as gusts of wind can drag or turn objects into projectiles, seek shelter in houses and buildings of solid construction.
• In your home, keep some of the windows open (preferably downwind), and avoid staying in rooms that face downwind and have windows. Stay away from windows and, if necessary, take cover under solid, heavy furniture or interior stairs.
• Do not restore power until you are sure there are no shorts. If you have doubts about the state of your house, request the support of the authorities, meanwhile do not use it.
• Do not drink liquids or foods that have been in contact with contaminated or flooded water; Follow the health instructions issued by the authorities.
• In the event of imminent danger, vacate the area immediately and do not attempt to store your belongings. You and your family are more important.
• Consider evacuating your home if you live in an area susceptible to landslides, knowing you can do so safely.
• Listen for sounds made by moving debris, such as trees collapsing or rocks colliding with each other.
• If you live near a canal or stream, be alert to any sudden changes in water levels and turbulence. These changes may indicate that a movement has occurred
• Have an emergency backpack on hand, with water, non-perishable food and important documents sealed in plastic bags.
