The end of an era! Nintendo has discontinued production of the Nintendo 3DS.
The company has announced this on its Japanese website. While it hasn’t officially announced why production is stopping, hardly any new titles have been coming out for the handheld for quite some time. Nintendo focuses almost entirely on the Nintendo Switch, released in 2017, a hybrid console that can be used as a handheld or connected to the television.
The Nintendo 3DS came out in 2011. Since then, several versions have been released, including the 3DS XL and the 2DS, which dropped the 3D effect of the handheld. In June, the company announced it had sold some 75.9 million copies of the 3DS worldwide.
