Microsoft Cortana will no longer be available on iOS and Android products
Microsoft Cortana it is certainly a very useful feature, to allow you to quickly search for something even by voice, thanks to the integrated virtual assistant. Despite this, the dedicated app for iOS and Android will soon be closed, the company announced on a support page. This actually puts a nail in Cortana’s coffin for consumer use cases, at least as far as direct competition with Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa is concerned. Let’s find out more about it.
Microsoft Cortana ditches smartphones
“We will soon end support for the Cortana app on Android and iOS, as Cortana continues its evolution as a productivity assistant. From March 31, 2021, Cortana content you’ve created, such as reminders and lists, will no longer work in the Cortana mobile app, but you will still be able to access it through Cortana in Windows. Plus, Cortana’s reminders, lists, and tasks are automatically synced with the Microsoft To Do app, which you can download for free to your phone. After March 31, 2021, the Cortana mobile app on your phone will no longer be supported. ”, The US software and hardware company recently announced in a post.
It was, however, an epilogue that could be easily guessed. Microsoft had already begun to deprecate Cortana on mobile devices in some markets, and that was expanding like wildfire. Third-party skills support has ended, and the only smart speaker on the market to support Cortana discontinued Microsoft’s assistant functionality earlier this month. A sad ending for the virtual assistant, which however continues to always remain functional and updated on all devices with Windows.
