MacWorld 08: Apple introduces the MacBook Air
It is undoubtedly a revolutionary Mac and a spectacular computer, but all that glitters is not gold. An aluminum casing with a maximum thickness of less than 2cm and a weight of around 1.5Kg. It is a computer with a 13” screen, with LED lighting, equipped with a Core 2 Duo processor, dwarfed by Intel for the occasion, with speeds of 1.6 and 1.8GHz depending on the model, 2GB of RAM and two versions of hard disk, a conventional 80GB and another 64GB SSD.
The new Macbook Air is a beauty and integrates high-quality technological details. Integrated webcam, large multi-touch touchpad with handling identical to that of the iPhone or iPod Touch and backlit keyboard that adjusts in brightness according to ambient light (also adjusts the brightness of the screen). It hardly has connectors, and this is where we find the main drawback, since it only has a video output compatible with DVI or VGA and a USB port, only one. Its connectivity goes through Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR and integrated N-type Wi-Fi. It has an autonomy of 5 hours, it can be purchased now in the Apple store although with availability for two or three weeks and its prices vary between €1,699 for the most normal model and €2,800 for the highest-end model with the SSD and the 1.8GHz processor. As you can see, it’s not cheap, but that’s nothing new for Apple.
