Ion2 appears in two flavors depending on the final product
The new Ion is nothing more than a graphics card attached to Intel’s NM10 chipset via a PCI Express bridge, so let’s say it’s nothing more than a dedicated graphics card that is added to the one already existing in the processor itself. The advantage is that its architecture is much more elaborate and allows access to features that the Intel GMA3150 integrated in the latest Atom would never reach.
Optimus technology will also be present on this platform, which will allow greater energy savings than the first generation Ion while increasing its performance in applications that require its power. In this way we will have the best of both worlds in the form of more powerful and efficient Netbooks when it comes to reproducing and producing multimedia content, games, etc.
Asus and make will be the first to have Netbooks with this new Zotac technology with the new ZBOX HD-ID11 that integrates this new platform with a dual-core D510 processor and open configurations for the user to choose the amount of memory and hard drive that you prefer for your desktop computer.
The versions of the Ion 2 graphics processor will depend largely on the intention of the integrator, but Nvidia understands that the most powerful version will be dedicated to multimedia equipment and laptops with screens of 12 “and up. The most trimmed version, with 8 of the 16 engines of shaders of the most advanced model, it will remain for the most basic 10” netbooks.
