Frostpunk 2 is announced for PC in a new trailer
the developer 11 bit studios has announced the sequel to his RTS, icepunk 2, the follow up to their critically acclaimed survival city builder that was released in 2018. It will be released for PC via Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store. Although no release window was provided, it did provide a new trailer to give a sneak peek at the game’s theme song.
Taking place 30 years after the world-changing blizzard that brought endless snowfall and harsh conditions to the world, the sequel focuses more on the search for oil. There are various factions that will fight for their own demands and eventually the city will be pushed to make sacrifices. As co-director Jakub Stokalski points out, “What we intend to offer players is an experience that goes far beyond that of the original Frostpunk.”
The development team currently consists of about 70 individuals and continues to grow. This means more resources to improve scale, user experience, and overall production values. The goal, however, “is to do more than just a direct sequel.”
“What players should expect is a wide universe of choice, the freedom to shape society and the city as they see fit, and reap the consequences. Frostpunk 2 builds on the conflicts of its predecessor: survival vs. human values, life vs. arctic frost. But the most important thing is that it adds a new layer that is present in many aspects of the game, whether it is politics, society or technological progress, the conflict between humans and their nature.
Frostpunk 2 does not currently have a release window, so it may be a while before it is released. Meanwhile, the original is available to play for free from August 12, 8 AM PST until August 16, 10 AM PST. You can read our Frostpunk Console Edition review at this link.
