First AMD Navi References in Linux Drivers

NAVI it will be AMD’s next architecture for the graphics card market. Its arrival is expected well into 2018 in the form of a GPU created following the 7-nanometer manufacturing process and accompanied by support for new HMB3 and GDDR6 memories.

To date, few details exist about these graphics, but it seems that AMD is already testing Navi GPUs as we have learned in the AMD drivers for Linux.

They refer to a GFX10 architecture (current vegas have codename GFX9) in the line that reads new_chip.gfx10.mmSUPER_SECRET.enable . We can see that the final name of the architecture is not indicated. Instead AMD has dubbed it “Super_Secret” to avoid giving away too much information, although considering the GFX10 thing there isn’t much to hide either.

We will have to wait once the equator of 2018 passes to know more official details of this architecture with which AMD will compete in the high-end market.
