Final Fantasy VII Remake with the aim of surpassing the PSone Original
Final Fantasy VII is one of the most beloved games of all time, but Square Enix wants to top it with the upcoming PlayStation 4 reboot. Originally revealed in 2015 only to have development restarted behind the scenes more recently, a new list of works of the publisher indicates that this will be a «new creation it will not be limited to a simple remake. In other words, it’s probably going to take another decade to do.
The job listing, translated by Gematsu, reads: “After 20 years, the staff behind the original Final Fantasy VII, which is one of the best in the industry even now, is coming together. A project to create a title that surpasses the original is starting on a grand scale. Preserve existing concepts that users have while creating a new world view. A project that can only be carried out here is waiting for you.

While it’s great that Square Enix seems to be taking this seriously, it’s really disappointing that development seems to keep restarting itself, meaning this is unlikely to happen any time soon. It’s pretty weird that we saw a full demo of the game on PlayStation Experience a few years ago, only to have all that progress thrown away.
