Final Fantasy VII Remake 2 in development, ‘You have to wait a bit’, says Square Enix
Key members of the Final Fantasy VII Remake development team have spoken more about its sequel, which is apparently now in full development. “I fully understand the importance of releasing a sequel soon. We want to deliver it as quickly as possible. We have grasped where the level of quality should be this time as well,” director Tetsuya Nomura tells Famitsu (translated by Gematsu).
“For the next game, we plan to release something even higher quality and more enjoyable than the first game, as quickly as possible,” Nomura continues. “When we announce the next game, we hope to also make our future plans clear.”
But how far is Final Fantasy VII Remake 2…or whatever it’s called? Going by the team’s feedback, it’s clearly hard to say. “The development of the next game has already started and we are working hard. You will wait a bit, but please look forward to it,” says co-director Naoki Hamaguchi. His guess is as good as ours.
There are some more interesting comments sprinkled throughout the interview. Nomura had no idea Jessie would be so popular to begin with. But the team went against the idea after deciding it ruined the serious tone. And Hamaguchi says that the opinion of the fans has been heard regarding the classic mode being used on a harder difficulty. Hopefully the sequel offers more options.
