E3 2015: Final Fantasy VII PS4 Remake May Not Be Exactly As You Remember It

Many of you probably have the plot of Final Fantasy VII by heart, but Square Enix has hinted that the PlayStation 4 remake – which was announced earlier this week to an enthusiastic response – could deviate from the original story. “We’ve announced an HD port version on the PS4, and then we have the remake on PS4,” director Tetsuya Nomura told GameSpot. “You will have this extremely, very, very, very nice Final Fantasy VII existing on the same plane. We feel like if that happens, why have the exact same game?”

The Final Fantasy VII lineup for the PS4 is very confusing, so before we go any further, let’s take a moment to clean things up: The HD port Nomura is referring to is a direct conversion of the PC version of the PSone classic, while the remake is a complete reimagining of the 1997 hit built from the ground up for Sony’s next-generation machine. It is this latest title that could end up taking a slightly different narrative path. But do you want story elements altered or do you expect an identical experience?
