Drake’s new album has a Final Fantasy Jam on it
A slow news day story to get you started on Friday: Drake dropped his new album Scorpion overnight, which includes a song called Final Fantasy and appears to be a taste of the legendary video game franchise. Listen carefully to the first part of the song and you’ll hear a harp, which looks like it was lifted from the legendary Final Fantasy prelude song.
The notes are placed in a different, less pleasant order – but the sounds definitely seem to have been borrowed from the classic Japanese RPG brand. Of course, you’ll have to listen to Canadian rap about how he prefers his girls baseless and likes to smear his lipstick. There is also a second part of the song featuring the American talk show host Maury for some reason.
But yes, there you have it: Final Fantasy on what is sure to be one of the biggest records of the year. We know Drake is a huge gaming fan because he recently appeared in a record-breaking Fortnite stream, so it’s no surprise he’s familiar with the Square Enix series. You can listen to the song on Spotify from here.
