Dissidia Final Fantasy NT’s Final Update Set for March, No Sequel Planned
Dissidia Final Fantasy NT will receive its last major update on March 5, Square Enix has announced. Since its release on PlayStation 4 in early 2018, the game has received a lot of support, mostly in the form of additional DLC characters. However, it is fair to say that the title never really got off the ground. Even though the Final Fantasy story has been brought together in a flashy-looking package, it has received lukewarm reviews, as well as lukewarm sales numbers.
Ultimately, Dissidia Final Fantasy NT struggled to connect with an audience outside of its most hardcore gamers, even after it was released last year. Clearly Square Enix doesn’t think there’s enough interest here to warrant future updates, though for now you’ll still be able to play online.
Square Enix has also said that there are currently no plans for any sort of sequel.
As for our own take on this, we can’t help but feel that Dissidia has been mishandled as a series. The original PSP games were great, but they were obviously stuck on a handheld…and when Dissidia finally made its way to home consoles, it wasn’t such a great game. There is so much potential in a Final Fantasy fighter… maybe Square Enix should call Arc System Works.
