At the Tokyo Game Show last week, level designer Max Pears of CD Projekt Red shared a ton of new information about adding multiplayer to Cyberpunk 2077, and why the first-person choice is ultimately going to be good for the game.
Level designer Max Pears from CD Projekt Red shared new information about Cyberpunk 2077 in an interview with VGC during the Tokyo Game Show last week. First, he talked about the negative reactions that followed the news that all cutscenes are in first person :
I hope people understand that we have thought about this and there is logic to our process. We’ve not just thrown this in randomly: there is a lot of thought that’s gone into it. In last year’s demo you saw the interactive dialogue system, where somebody pulled a gun on your face. I don’t think you would necessarily get that same impact in third-person.
So this is almost the same response as last time when they stated that immersion is hugely important. At the time, there was some confusion about the cutscenes we saw during the E3 2018 demo, which could be seen in third person. However, as far as Pears knows, these cutscenes haven’t changed.
From my experience, no. But most of the levels I worked on featured cutscenes in a first-person perspective anyway.
He doesn’t seem to know for sure, so maybe these cutscenes are still being worked on right now. In addition, Pears was asked about the multiplayer, although he could not reveal too much about it:
I can’t say too much on it because it’s still going through its process, but it’s about making sure that multiplayer fits in with the lore of the world and it feels right.
He indicates that the focus is still on the single player and that development of the multiplayer is still in an early phase. In any case, it is a good sign that they are taking their time for both modes, and that when multiplayer finally comes out, the mode will also work well with the single player.
