Cyberpunk 2077 Dev Responds To Questions About Lack Of Police Chases

A question about the lack of police chases in Cyberpunk 2077 is answered with a couple of understandable replies and a mention of the Elden Ring and Sonic.

The question came up during a stream and asked about the lack of police chases in Cyberpunk 2077. For those who don’t know, Cyberpunk 2077 doesn’t have the traditional police responses that games like GTA and Watch Dogs have, where the severity level goes up and the police show up after a while. Instead, cops spawn around the player, but don’t chase them if they run.

Sasko first responded by pointing out that not all open world games have cop answers, mentioning that Elden Ring and Sonic Frontiers probably won’t either. Of course, none of those games have a police force (that everyone knows), but it seems the question was more directed towards the games that do. The comment sparked a backlash against Sasko, but it should be noted that his resonance in the earlier video was not complete. Their final answer was that they simply hadn’t had time to implement police chases. While it’s likely that the fastest cars in Cyberpunk 2077 could outrun them anyway, this clearly wasn’t a popular choice.

Looking at the state of the game, it’s not hard to believe that implementing police chases wasn’t a priority. It’s often been pointed out that driving in Cyberpunk 2077 isn’t great, and it’s likely that the priority was making sure the feature worked before adding another element to it. It’s not an unpopular Reddit opinion on Cyberpunk 2077 that the game is bad, but it seems to be an unpopular one that the developers deserve some slack if the response to this answer is any indication.

Cyberpunk 2077 is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions in development.
