Crucial P5 M.2 PCIe 3.0 SSDs arrive with up to 2 TB capacity and 3400 MBps read


Crucial has just launched the P5 SSDs that make use of the PCIe 3.0 bus and NVMe in M.2 2280 format with speeds of up to 3400 MBps in read.

Crucial has chosen to renew its high-end SSDs but without going to the PCIe 4.0 bus. Currently the manufacturer has inexpensive units in M.2 and 2.5 “format corresponding to other lower ranges of SSDs. Those that concern us now, the Crucial P5, they come in 250GB, 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB capacity and all of them in M.2 format, making use of 96-layer 3D TLC NAND memories and Micron’s own controller.

The four variants in capacity share a read speed of 3400 MBps, but they differ in writing. The 250 GB model achieves 1400 MBps in writing while the other 3 reach 3000 MBps. IOPS (input and output operations per second) stay at 210k / 355k for the 250GB, 210k / 500k for the 500GB, 390k / 500k for the 1TB, and 430k / 500k for the 2TB.

They all come with a 5 year warranty and a durability equivalent to writing 0.3 times the capacity of the disk per day, during its 5-year warranty. At the moment the prices have not been revealed, but there must be little left because the Crucial P5 they are already listed on its website.
