Blue dots on the Home screen of an iPhone or iPad, that’s what they mean

Sometimes while browsing the home screen of your own iPhone or iPadwe may run into a blue dot next to certain app names. But what does that mean? Why are the blue dots next to some apps? For those who do not know the answer to these questions it means that the app flanked by a blue dot was recently updated.

This means to the application new features may have been added since the last time we ran it. So the blue dot in a sense urges us to check the app again to find out what’s new. The same thing happens to updated apps on the Mac.

Blue dots, why they suddenly appear and how to remove them

If blue dots appear next to app names suddenly it means we have automatic updates of apps enabled on our iPhone or iPad. If we want to disable automatic app updates, just go to Settings – App Store and turn off the switch next to “App updates”. But in general, having this feature enabled can be helpful. The blue dots will also appear when we manually update an app via theApp Store.

To remove a blue dot next to the app name, just tap on the app and launch it. Once the app runs, the dot will disappear. Obviously, at a subsequent update of the application the blue point will reappear again. For those who want to permanently disable the blue points unfortunately there is currently no option that allows you to do thisneither on iPhone nor on iPad.
