17 members of the European Union approve a fund of 145 billion Euros to develop a 2nm technology node
A total of 17 members of the European Union are joining forces to achieve a 2nm technology node on the continent in the coming years.
The world of technology is governed by the development of chips that implement the various products. Most of these chips are manufactured at TSMC, which has little to do with Europe except for the state-of-the-art ASML machinery, based in the Netherlands. As we saw a few weeks ago, Europe wants to concentrate forces to develop a technological node that is at the height of TSMC, which are major words.
For it, 17 members of the European Union, among which is Spain, have signed an agreement by which they will allocate 145 billion Euros for its development and implementation.
Europe will allocate 145 billion Euros to the development of a 2 nm technology node
Because ASML is European, they shouldn’t have any trouble acquiring the necessary machinery, unlike China’s largest semiconductor manufacturer, SMIC.
The technology they want to reach is have a node as low as 2 nm. Let us remember that TSMC, for example, already has factories fully operational under 5 nm, and has already completed the construction of its 3 nm node that will come into operation in 2022. TSMC is also preparing a 2 nm technological node, possibly for 2024.
